FontExpert 2007 Help

Running FontExpert with Administrator Permissions or as Standard User

Contents

Some features of FontExpert require administrator permissions. If you are a standard user, the program will not allow you to install and uninstall fonts permanently, but you will be allowed to activate and deactivate fonts temporarily.

The following features require administrator permissions because each action affects all users of the computer:

1. Installing fonts permanently. (Only temporary activation and deactivation are allowed.)
2. Uninstalling fonts installed permanently. (Such as fonts located in the Windows Fonts folder.)
3. Changing font substitutions. (Rarely used feature.)

Administrator permissions provide an access to the Windows Fonts folder and write access to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry keys used for font installation.

Temporary activation and deactivation of fonts does not require administrator permissions.

FontExpert Setup Program

As virtually all setup programs the FontExpert Setup must run with administrator permissions. Starting from FontExpert version 8 Release 4, the Setup installs FontExpert for all users of the computer.

Running FontExpert in Windows XP, Windows XP x64 Edition, Windows 2000

If you are an Administrator on your computer, no actions are needed. If you are a standard user, the FontExpert features requiring administrator permissions will be unavailable (see above).

Running FontExpert in Windows Vista, Windows Vista x64 Edition

If you are an Administrator on your Vista computer, Windows Vista will still try to run each program with restricted permissions as if you were a standard user. You should explicitly tell Vista that you want to run program as an administrator.

Note
By default, Windows Vista turns on the User Account Control (UAC) feature.
FontExpert can run with User Account Control. It is not required to turn it off.

To get access to all features of FontExpert:
