Preview font group's contents on selection?

Re: FontExpert 2006 8.0

From what I can tell, once you've created a list of font groups the only way to view previews of what's inside each group is to double-click the group folder (in the Groups pane), thereby opening it to review its contents. This, in turn, loads previews of the group's fonts in the Font Faces pane.

Is there any way to tell FontExpert to preview contents on selection of a group folder, rather than double-click?

I'd like to be able to select the first group, then use my down-arrow key to "scroll" through the groups to see previews (rather than having to double-click each group). From there I could select one of the previews in the Font Faces pane to see the character map, font info, sample text, etc.

Can this be done?

We will accept your question as a suggestion for future release - an option to expand group folder when it is selected.

In current version it is needed to expand group folder once (by a click to [+] button or by double click). After that it's contents will be displayed by a one click to group folder.

When you're expanding group folder, FontExpet reads all font files located in expanded folder from local disk and displays group contents in Font Faces view.

By default folders in Group view are collapsed. This behaviour is by design. FontExpert tries to display the groups tree as quickly as possible. It can take too much time to expand all group folders containing hundreds or thousands of fonts.

It's not so much that I want to be able to expand the folder (in the Groups pane) with one click (which, as you say, can be done by clicking the + sign), but that I'd like to see the previews in the Font Faces page by selecting (rather than double-clicking to expand) a group folder.

It's a small point, but it's somewhat tedious to have to double-click/expand each group folder in order to see previews of the fonts inside.

Ideally one could select (single-click) a group folder and see that folder's contents previewed in the Font Faces pane, but still have to double-click in order to open/expand that folder in the Groups pane.

I'll hope this gets implemented in the first update to 8.0.

Thanks for your reply...

Yes, I understand that you mean preview of fonts by a one click, and I also mean the same. Expanding contents of a folder (by one-click selection) will automatically display all fonts (in selected group) in Font Faces view. (Should be implemented in the following release of FontExpert.)
