Ability to append keywords or tags

Post by Guest »

The ability for a user to append keywords or 'tags' to the description
field of the font file. Example tags being things like, zen, organic,
childish, industrial, futuristic.

This way your 'Font Groups' serve as a base categorization scheme, but
you can tag and search across Font Groups. The search function in
FontExpert does a good job, but the ability to have user contributed
meta-data would be great.

I'd like to second this request.

The best way to organise a font collection (and the only proper way really) is to have the collection loaded into a database where it is possible to attach multiple keywords to individual fonts, and then search for fonts based on AND/OR/NOT operators, eg. monospaced AND bold NOT slab-serif, etc.

I have tried every Windows font manager searching for this feature and not a single one has it! (well...apart from "Advanced Font Catalog" which is not very advanced, highly buggy, and TTF only). I know of at least 2 Mac-only font managers that have this ability, so it is possible.
This is considered a standard feature on photo management software - let's get it happening for fonts! :D

I realise that implementing this feature would be a big job, but wouldn't it be cool to be the only Windows font manager to do it?
What do you reckon?

Thank you for suggestion, we are working on this feature and it is planned to implement it in the Release 2 of version 8.0.

what would be useful also is a "tag pane" with a list of keywords.

that way, in any given view, we could click on a font (or several) and select its keywords by clicking on them. it's much faster than if we have to type them manually ...

also, please make sure that the keyword database can be exported. if I reinstall windows, I don't want to have to re-tag all my fonts ...
