Finally, auto-activation for Windows. Thanks Proxima...

Post by jason »

As one of many that I know who have been waiting seeminly forever for a font manager with auto-activation for Windows, I just want to say thank-you to Proxima for being the first (that I've come across) to do so. I've been a Suitcase user for years, stubbornly sticking to that application because I couldn't be bothered to switch until someone addressed the auto-activation situation, so I was very happy this morning to find that FontExpert 2006 had been released.

I've downloaded the 30-day trial and have tested things out for a couple of hours and am very impressed so far. The interface is a bit busy, but I apprecaite the multitude of options to customize the workspace, and everything I might want is there at hand: a frame for my file list, a frame for my groups, full character map, full font info, a good sized sample frame, it's all there. (Granted, I work on a 1680x1050 display which gives me plenty of real estate - the interface might be a bit cluttered for those on lower resolution monitors).

But the cherry is the auto-activation plug-in for InD CS2. The tests I've run have the fonts loading nicely, and I've been waiting so long for this I could almost cry.

I'm going to keep running the application for a week or so to see if any bugs show up, but at the moment I'm very pleased, and look forward to sending Proxima the very reasonable $59 to support their good work (finally, a solid font manager for Windows users!).

Thanks Proxima.
